Mike & Mike Roofing installs, repairs, and replaces siding across Weatherford and the DFW area. New siding does two jobs at once: it protects your home from Texas weather and it's the single biggest change you can make to your home's curb appeal. We install LP SmartSide engineered wood, vinyl, and fiber cement systems built to handle our heat, humidity, and hail — and we'll tell you straight which one fits your home and budget.
Siding materials we install — ranked
Not all siding is equal, especially in North Texas where hail is a fact of life. Here's how we rank the three main options, and why.
#1 — LP SmartSide Engineered Wood Siding & Trim (our top pick)
LP SmartSide is the siding we recommend above everything else for Weatherford-area homes — and it's not close. It's engineered wood: real wood strands treated with LP's proprietary SmartGuard process, bonded into panels that are tougher, lighter, and better-warranted than the competition. Here's why it earns the top spot:
- Best-in-class warranty — LP SmartSide carries a 5-year 100% labor-and-materials warranty followed by a 50-year prorated manufacturer warranty. That's the strongest coverage in the siding category, period. Hardie and vinyl don't match it.
- Hail resistance — LP flexes on impact rather than shattering. In hail country like Parker County and DFW, that's the difference between a siding that survives a storm and one that needs replacing after it.
- Lighter and safer to install — LP is far lighter than fiber cement and doesn't produce the hazardous silica dust that Hardie does when cut. A cleaner, safer install means tighter seams and fewer weak points long-term.
- Engineered for Texas weather — heat, humidity, wind, and hail. LP handles all of it as a complete system, including matching trim boards that finish the job right.
- Holds paint beautifully — comes pre-primed from the factory and takes any exterior paint for lasting curb appeal.
If you want the best siding for your North Texas home and the warranty to back it up, LP SmartSide is the answer. It's what we recommend first, every time.
#2 — Vinyl Siding (a great option in many colors and styles)
Vinyl siding has come a long way. Today's vinyl comes in a wide range of colors, textures, and profiles — including styles that mimic wood grain, shakes, and beaded designs — making it a genuinely attractive choice for homeowners who want to refresh their home's look at a lower price point. Here's what makes vinyl a solid pick:
- Wide color and style selection — dozens of colors and profiles available, including options that closely resemble wood without the maintenance.
- Low maintenance — never needs painting. An occasional rinse keeps it looking clean.
- Lowest up-front cost of the three options, and individual panels are easy to repair.
- Lightweight and fast to install — straightforward installation with no silica dust hazards.
The trade-off: vinyl can crack in a severe hail hit or a hard freeze, and it doesn't add the structural toughness that LP does. But for homeowners who want a sharp-looking exterior at a budget-friendly price, vinyl is a very good choice.
#3 — Hardie Board / Fiber Cement (well-known, but not our first recommendation here)
James Hardie / HardiePlank fiber cement is a widely recognized product with a solid reputation — it won't rot, won't burn, and holds paint well. We install it, and it's a legitimate product. But for Weatherford and Parker County homeowners, it ranks third on our list, and here's why:
- Heavy and brittle — fiber cement can crack or chip on hard hail impact, where LP SmartSide flexes and survives. In hail-prone North Texas, that matters.
- Silica dust hazard — cutting Hardie releases silica dust that requires full respiratory precautions. It's an extra safety step LP simply doesn't have.
- Heavier and slower to install — the added weight and handling difficulty means longer installs and more labor cost.
- Shorter warranty than LP — Hardie's coverage doesn't match LP SmartSide's 5/50 warranty.
Hardie is a fine product. It's not a bad choice — it's just not our best choice for this area. LP SmartSide gives you more impact resistance, a better warranty, and a cleaner install. We'll always tell you that straight.
Why siding matters in Texas
Our climate is hard on exteriors. Sun fades and cracks old paint and wood, hail dents and splits worn siding, and moisture behind failing siding rots the sheathing underneath. Replacing tired siding seals the envelope back up, cuts your energy bills, and often gets covered by insurance when hail damage is involved — the same claim process we handle for roofs.
Repair or full replacement
If only a section took damage, we can repair and match it. If the siding's widely faded, cracked, or letting moisture in, replacement is the better long-term move — and it transforms how the whole house looks. We'll give you an honest read on the roof, and give you an honest read here too.
Siding and roofing together
Because we do both, a lot of our customers replace siding and roof in the same project — one crew, one schedule, one set of insurance paperwork, and a finished exterior that looks right from top to bottom.
Our Promise
Every job carries our 10-year labor warranty, the Owens Corning extended manufacturer warranty up to 50 years, and the Directorii $250,000 performance guarantee. The work you see is done by the crew you met.
